this afternoon while we were studying my friend asked the statue in the corner. its funny how no matter how important some things are to you, you can just not see because they become a part of your everyday landscape. this statue was in the "room that you were not allowed in" at aunt ceil & uncle teddy's house. those of you who know me, know how much they meant to me and my family. this afternoon was a really lovely opportunity to share my love for these two people with a friend and to remember to look around at the things i have, take stock and reminisce for a minute or two.

this evening i finished the project, its submitted and while it was exhausting i feel a sense of pride of having accomplished it.

today i also i found out that my pictures, my emails, my address book, my calendar, my school documents, my wedding documents (speeches in particular) . . . this list could go on, are forever gone. (if you are someone who has any of these things please email them to me i want them back!) the people who i put much faith in, called me this afternoon to tell me that my hard-drive data is non-recoverable, they can't even get one complete piece of data off of it. its a paperweight, no its worse than that because its not even pretty. so this afternoon i cried and i fought off a headache and i finished my project. life goes on and it could be worse, much, much worse.

what 7+ hours in a library does to a table 365.198

today i was at the library from 11:30 am to 7:40 pm i was in a study room with three friends. thank goodness we were all together the laughter kept us from ripping our hair out. the project is due tomorrow evening and as of this evening i am 75% done. its a good thing.

baking mishap 365.197

i have made many, many pans of brownies, not to mention many other kinds of sweet confections. i have made things that don't taste good (not often but it happens) i have made things that have stuck to the pan but more often than not i am considered a great baker, one whose baking confections are desired at parties. yesterday however the brownies (i have made before) would not set, the edges were burning but i thought maybe the middle will be ok. nope i was wrong. quite possibly the worst thing i have ever produced. i am humbled, my pan may not recover. will my husband trust me to bake ever again? will i build up the courage to try brownies again? (this is the pan after an overnight soak, which really hasn't helped)

tonight we had to go grocery shopping. why? well i am almost out of milk and also the sale on the seltzer was ending today. we didn't leave the house until 8, but we ran into two friends at two of the three stores we visited. we noted that both these people have kids and work full-time so late evening grocery shopping is where its at. a fun little glimpse into our future. also regarding the seltzer, we bought 39 bottles, my husband thinks i am crazy, but he let me fill up a whole cart just with seltzer, because everyone knows you always lose a fight with a pregnant lady. oh also these are the bags we used to go shopping, we didn't bring a single new paper or plastic bag into the house! al gore would be proud.

the fate of my hard-drive lies in the hands of getting to drive-savers via fed-ex. it was supposed to be delivered today. what does it say when i look it up? "delay beyond our control" what the hell is that? anyway i called and at least its en route and its not lost. i working on looking on the bright side and also not throwing things when i am angry.

my father-in-law loves this cake, luckily plums are coming into to season and i am able to make it again. this is what was leftover after three people had some for dessert and my father-in-law took what was "needed" for his lunch.
** this is a great cake make it, make it now! (you can substitute almost any "dry fruit" apples, pears, nectarines etc.. for the plums (i clearly used regular plums not the italian ones they suggest)

unhealthy love? 365.188

those of you that know me, know that i love me my seltzer. i could drink gallons of the stuff all day every day. it soothed my nausea, it fulfills my daily water requirement, its like a miracle. today we were out shopping and stop and shop had a sale. 3 for $1. (normally its anywhere from $0.60 to $0.80 a bottle) it was as if the heavens had opened and i could see the manna falling at my feet. this incredible bounty was only made better by the fact that, they had already received their kosher for passover shipment and the sale applied to that seltzer as well (normally upwards of a $1 a bottle). well we stocked up 15 bottles for me and 12 for passover (i daresay there will be another trip back to the store to get another dozen or so before the sale goes away!) so dear reader you tell me unhealthy love or just a gal who loves her some seltzer.

tonight will and i went to a meeting with other dog owners because there is a threat that the town may be closing our local dog park. this dog park means to a lot to us and to our fellow dog owners, we know our community and our neighbors because of it, to us nothing is more important than community as we prepare to bring a new human into this world. so, as a group we want to be sure that we had our talking points ready before the threat becomes more real (ie gets put on the agenda for the next town meeting) because as we all know its better to think ahead. anyway i was proud of what we accomplished and wanted to share!

lactose intolerance! we went to whole foods and how they tempt me i mean does a grocery store need a gelato bar at the entrance? how does it get worse? my favorite flavor combo, dark chocolate mint was beautifully displayed, oh cruel world! i did try one of the sorbet flavors and it was good, but it was no dark chocolate mint gelato.

last night, my hard-drive (HD) died. i went to reboot and with the restart i got the dreaded file folder with a question mark inside accompanied by a distinct clicking noise. those of you in know with computers know just how dire the situation is based just on that. i called applecare and they told me to go a genius bar. there a nice guy named henry told me what i feared. my HD was no more and worse than that, they couldn't recover any of the data. in order to get my data i would need to send the old hard-drive off to some place with a clean room so that they can attempt to recover the data. the nice apple people aren't going to charge me anything to replace my HD however data retrieval that's gonna cost me. more than $1000.

finals are in 3 weeks, every note i have taken for any class this semester is on the dead HD. the project due tomorrow (that i had already spent some time on), yea that was on there too. yea no stress. not to mention pictures, my calendar, addresses emails of sentimental value, the list goes on and on and on.

whats most annoying about this? i am normally really good about backing things up. however since i got pregnant i seem to have forgotten all about it. message to my loyal readers, BACK-UP NOW, its costly and frustrating to not have a back up.

so whats missing normally on our coffee table there are two mac lap-tops i have the distinct feeling that the iBook misses the macBook, as do i.

i spend a lot of my time at school, most of that time is in study rooms or the library. however when i am in class this is what i see. not exciting i know especially since the board is clean and there is no professor lecturing. but still i was reviewing the blog and realized that this classroom was missing it was a big omission.

I know jackson has a sweet face, he is a sweet dog, he loves us. he "protects" us. we however, made a mistake in his training. however all the fault is not ours. when we first got jackson we were told, by more than one person that knows such things, that he most likely wouldn't get bigger than 35 -40 lbs. so since he was going to remain small we figured that him occasionally sleeping with us would be ok. however our dear dog is 55 pounds. you can see from the picture that he takes up much of the bed, sleeping with us is torture. for a while he had no interest in sleeping with us. However recently since, he knows that he isn't supposed to sleep with us, he waits until the middle of the night to join us. He knows we are too tired to deal with him so he gets to stay. as a result both will and i get terrible sleep, added to this that i am not sleeping awesome anyway. I am a giant pile of crank. but still i wake up every morning and see this sweet face and can't help loving that dear dog of mine.

recently will started to be able to feel the fetus moving about inside me, neither he or i know what body part we are feeling but nonetheless its a neat thing. whats not neat.... a new trick called lets dance on the bladder. i can't say that its painful, just really, really annoying.

as a side bar we went to the hospital, where i intend to give birth, last night for the "tour," i love my husband but watching his face while they explained the mechanics of the bed that i was to lay on was priceless! (to his credit there are lots of moving parts and things that come off but still its clear this man hasn't really thought about what happens when a woman goes to the lady bits doctor.)

today we got a save the date/invitation for a wedding on august 8 of this year. i have never been invited to a destination wedding, the invitation says that shoes are optional, just reading those words took me a to warm beach-y place in my head. but then i remembered, i'm pregnant, my due date is july 13th, my graduation is august 8th. the reality is that, finances aside, we can't go to this wedding. i hate typing that. i love weddings, i love seeing my friends celebrate their love, i love beaches. i know that my friends will understand for any number of reasons still, i hate that we can't go this wedding.

(anyway i was cleared to take sweet sweet drugs , nyquil & tussin to help me alleviate a cough that sounds suspiciously like a death rattle, i am off to take my nyquil and slip into a sweet sweet drug induced sleep. as a side-bar to the side bar, the fetus does not like the coughs every time i cough i get an extra reminder in the form of a kick from the inside.. we already have such a loving relationship)
